Concrete Silence

What remains of sound when matter renders it mute?
Originally conceived for Palazzo Litta in Milan as part of the Bar Adrenalina project during Milan Design Week 2026, the installation Concrete Silence explores the paradox between the density of matter and the immateriality of sound through a series of concrete microphones suspended in space.
By replacing the functional metal of a recording device with raw, brutalist concrete, the installation strips the object of its primary purpose. Within the historical and ornate context of the palace, these microphones are no longer tools for amplification; they have become sculptural icons—a monument to muteness.
The installation crystallizes the act of listening into a motionless form in fragile equilibrium, operating a subtle inversion of meaning: we are no longer the ones speaking through the devices; instead, it is the instruments themselves that observe our silence.
In this temporary “acoustic chamber” of concrete, vibration is evoked through absence, suggesting a physical presence that does not amplify sound, but rather preserves its memory.
